Apitua is the name of this small African iron bell. Perfectly suited for accented playing.
The West-African Apitua is a small iron hand bell in canoe shape with a high, clear and crisp tone for rhythmic accents. Traditionally the Apitua is played in the ensemble with the doumdoum (djun djun) drums and it is used as a metronome for the whole band to keep timing. There is something very awakening about metal percussion, and the Apitua is no exception, different tension of the hand and positions will produce different sounds.
The Apitua is also known as Atoke, Toke, or – due to its shape – as banana.
Comes with an iron striker.
